Who we are: The UF College of Medicine communications team produces internal and external content to maintain and strengthen the college’s reputation. Communications team members produce a biweekly e-newsletter shared with more than 8,000 college faculty, students and staff, pitch relevant stories to media for coverage, produce an annual print publication — Florida Physician magazine — manage a news website and provide communications support for college events such as commencement, the annual State of the College address and the Celebration of Research event.

Requirements: Undergraduate or graduate student at UF; successful completion of reporting class (if the intern intends to focus on writing); provide a current resume and at least two previous work samples; at least 10 hours of in-person availability per week for the duration of the internship
Preferred skills: Experience with news-style writing, managing social media sites, audience-development strategies and analytics
Description of duties: A communications intern with the UF College of Medicine may take on different duties depending on their skills and interests. These may include:
- Writing feature stories and news briefs, including profiles and Q&As for college and alumni communications (print and digital)
- Assisting in maintaining the editorial calendar for UF College of Medicine social media channels (Facebook, X, Instagram, LinkedIn)
- Assisting in building out e-newsletters and loading stories to the web using WordPress
- Helping to build and execute communications plans
- Designing graphics for digital and print use (Canva, Adobe Creative Suite)
- Photographing and producing video content for events
- Other duties as assigned
