Herbert Wertheim College of Engineering Marketing and Communications department has an opening for a Student Assistant for Fall 2025 and/or Spring 2026.
The college is seeking a creative and motivated student to join our communications team. The primary responsibility of this role is to write engaging and compelling stories that highlight the achievements, research, and events within the College of Engineering. This position offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in storytelling, journalism, and content creation.
Responsibilities include:
Research and write feature stories, news articles, and profiles for use on the college website, newsletters, and other communication platforms.
Conduct interviews with faculty, students, alumni, and staff.
Assist in editing and proofreading content to ensure accuracy and consistency.
Attend college events and activities to get story ideas and make connections with faculty.
Work closely with the communications team to brainstorm and pitch story ideas.
Organize and maintain an archive of written materials and story leads.
Qualifications include:
Current sophomore or junior student, preferably pursuing a degree in journalism, public relations, communications, or a related field.
Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills.
Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to conduct interviews professionally.
Basic knowledge of AP style, the ability to multi-task and excellent communication skills.
Salary starts at $15.00/hour, with 10 hours a week required.
