Cultural Publication Intern

Ideal Applicants: Early-career students seeking practical experience in creative content development through various mediums; little to no previous experience required. [1st – 4th Year Students]

Duration: 5-12+ flexible hours/week alongside busy academic schedule; positions semester-long or year-long; weekly responsibilities prioritize quality of project experience rather than quantity of hours logged.

Objective: To provide interns with foundational experience by leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities in creative content strategy, qualitative research projects, culturally impactful content.

Interns in this role will be assigned to project opportunities based on their skills, department needs, and current organizational goals. Responsibilities vary by specific assignment within the department but may include:

  • Support in Strategic Management and Oversight:
    • Assist in overseeing the content strategy of the blog, focusing on community insights, safety perceptions, and cultural impacts.
    • Support the planning and execution of blog, podcast, technical writing, and multimedia projects that reflect SafeStride’s mission and cultural impact.
  • Research and Data Collection Assistance:
    • Aid in conducting qualitative research through interviews and field research to capture community and cultural themes related to safety.
    • Gather data and stories for narrative-driven content focusing on community engagement and cultural representation.
  • Content Development and Production Support:
    • Ensure the production of high-quality, engaging content that effectively communicates community experiences and cultural impact.
    • Collaborate with other departments to ensure research findings are accurately represented in publications.
  • Multimedia and Design Collaboration Assistance:
    • Partner with the Publication and Multimedia departments to create dynamic content that complements narrative-driven research.
    • Manage projects integrating video, audio, and visual storytelling elements to enhance outreach and ensure publications are visually appealing and culturally aligned (shorts, podcasts, documentaries, etc.).
  • Academic and Professional Engagement Support:
    • Drive the recognition and dissemination of research findings within both academic and non-academic circles.
    • Foster relationships with universities and academic journals to promote SafeStride’s mission and enhance community engagement strategies.
  • Project Coordination and Leadership Support:
    • Oversee the development of materials for cultural engagement and community outreach, ensuring effective communication of SafeStride’s activities.
    • Guide the creation of community-focused publications in close collaboration with technical writers and designers.
  • Department-Wide A.I. Integration:
    • Use AI tools like Crimson Hexagon and Google Cloud Natural Language to analyze cultural data, spot trends, and customize content for varied audiences.

**Our internships are eligible for academic credit towards specific degree programs (3 credit hours = 120 internship hours completed). Eligibility varies by individual and degree program, so please specify degree program details when applying to ensure you meet the requirements.
