Evening News Co-Anchor

WPSD Local 6, the dominant legacy NBC affiliate in Paducah, Kentucky (DMA 90), has a rare opening for a primary evening co-anchor to help lead a newsroom full of talented, motivated journalists.
The ideal candidate is a leader, mentor, and compelling storyteller who can connect with our audience across multiple platforms. This position is more than just anchoring our 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 10 p.m. newscasts. It’s about telling stories that matter most to the people who live in our four-state region.
We’re looking for a journalist who isn’t afraid to speak truth to power and understands the importance of FOIAs, transparency, accountability, and public records. Someone who asks tough questions, pushes for answers, and helps elevate the newsroom’s journalism every day is the candidate we need most.
While you will be teamed with one of the market’s most veteran anchormen, this is very much a leadership role. Our anchors are expected to be newsroom leaders, setting the tone editorially, mentoring younger journalists, and contributing ideas that strengthen our coverage.
Strong writing, shooting, and editing skills are essential. We have an outstanding group of photographers, but we value anchors who are hands-on and aren’t afraid to pick up a camera when the story calls for it. You should be comfortable reporting in the field, breaking news, and producing enterprise content that goes beyond the daily rundown.
This is an opportunity to make an impact in a newsroom where strong journalism still matters. Three years of experience is preferred but not required.

Assignment Manager

WPSD LOCAL 6, the dominant legacy NBC affiliate in Paducah, Kentucky (90^th DMA), is looking for a highly organized, editorially strong Assignment Manager to lead daily newsgathering across our television and newspaper platforms in the four-state region. This role is responsible for monitoring news, planning coverage, and ensuring our newsroom is focused on the most important local stories.

Responsibilities:

• Track breaking news and develop daily/long-term coverage plans
• Coordinate with reporters, producers, and editors on story development
• Generate story ideas and help reporters build enterprise content
• Build and maintain relationships with community leaders and sources
• Manage newsroom calendars, contacts, and assignment desk logistics
• Assist with timecard oversight and newsroom operations
• Participate in training and serve in an on-call rotation, including some weekends

The ideal candidate will have strong news judgment and organizational skills; an ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment; excellent communication and collaboration skills; newsroom experience (assignment desk, reporting, or producing) preferred; and familiarity with broadcast and digital workflows.

We prefer Assignment Manager experience but if you have a strong journalism background, great news judgment, and organizational and people skills, we want to hear from you.

News Producer

You also love helping reporters craft extraordinary work.

You will report and write for our newspapers, magazines, websites, television newscasts and social media.

As a storyteller, you know how to balance hard news reporting with the emotional stories of the people that make up our communities. You are a writer who can go beyond the assignment file and enterprise important stories.  You look beyond the event in front of you and find the effects this event will have on the communities about which you report. Your work will be creative, compelling, and relatable content that appears across our network of seven newspapers in Western Kentucky and Southern Illinois, and NBC affiliate WPSD Local 6. You will be based at WPSD Local 6.
