SpecialEdConnection Summer Internship Opportunity – PAID

  • May 28-August 7, 2024 (excluding June 19 and July 4-5); start/end dates can be adjusted as needed
  • Work within regular business hours, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with lunch break (REMOTE)

SpecialEdConnection.com, a product of LRP Media Group (lrp.com), is a subscription-based website that helps public school districts and special educators stay in compliance with federal special education law. This unique online resource delivers best-practice articles, model policies, staff training tools, state-specific data, and more. It’s the only resource special education directors and other administrators need to gain clarity on their legal requirements.

What you’ll do:

  • Learn about federal special education laws
  • Learn about court cases involving special education
  • Identify potential story ideas and legal compliance angles
  • Generate interview questions
  • Write headlines and story teasers/blurbs
  • Outreach to sources (special educators or special ed attorneys) and schedule interviews
  • Shadow Special Ed Connection writers and editors conducting interviews
  • Contribute quotes to articles
  • Edit and revise your work
  • Write full bylined articles

Desired experience and skills:

  • Undergraduate communications/journalism major entering junior or senior year
  • Experience as reporter for campus or other news publication (including at least one bylined work sample of a digital and/or print article)
  • Familiar with how to do outreach to secure sources, interview sources, and write features articles
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
  • Persistence and ability to take initiative
  • Willingness to gain expertise in new topics
  • Ability to apply feedback to improve work
