Interested in communicating stories of women’s history with a wide variety of audiences? Join the central Office of Public Affairs for a full public relations experience, working with traditional media, social media, internal communications and web development. Help us uncover stories of American women’s history and find ways to share them with journalists, tourists, students, visitors and staff. Projects will encourage exploration of Smithsonian collections and expertise across the institution, particularly as we prepare for America’s 250th in July 2026.
Tasks may include: building specialized media lists, drafting social media content for Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn, writing blogs for the main si.edu webpage and articles for the internal staff newspaper, and supporting public affairs offices with preparations for America250 through a women’s history lens.
Candidate must have writing and research experience, preferably with a focus in American history and women’s history, and experience creating digital content. A background in communications, marketing or public relations is preferable, but we welcome any applicant with a passion for communications and storytelling.
This internship will be ten weeks, June 9–August 15. The stipend is $11,920, and it will be a full-time, in-person experience. This is an in-person internship open to college students (undergraduate or graduate) and recent graduates (within 1-2 years of graduating).
