WLRN News Summer 2026 – International Journalism Internship
In partnership with UF’s Bob Graham Center for Public Service
This in-person paid Summer A internship is brought to you by WLRN News, the public radio station of South Florida, in collaboration with the Bob Graham Center for Public Service. This partnership aims to develop student engagement in international journalism.
Over the course of their 6-week position, the intern’s primary responsibility will be pitching, reporting, and producing news stories on international issues, especially as they relate to South Florida. Because the region is home to the largest US community of Haitians, Venezuelans, Cubans, and Nicaraguans, as well as a large Jewish community, stories will likely be focused on Latin America and the Middle East, although other international interests are welcome.
Previous International Journalism interns have assisted with the coverage of news stories on immigration, human rights, foreign policy, diplomacy, and Gulf politics. Interns will receive training, coaching, and mentorship from the WLRN team. Previous interns had additional paid opportunities to report stories for NPR or other national programs, such as The World. Successful internships often lead to freelance work with WLRN, and many WLRN staff members are former interns, demonstrating how important the internship program is as a pipeline for talent into the newsroom.
The selected intern:
Will receive a $2,000 stipend.
Will earn 3 credits with the course code IDS4940 for this position and will be graded on an S/U basis.

The internship totals 135 hours. Students will complete 120 hours of in-person work (roughly 20 hours/week over 6 weeks between May 11- June 18). The exact allocation of your work hours is to be finalized in consultation with your supervisor. The remaining 15 hours are reserved for academic assignments such as reflection essays and possibly preparation for a public presentation.
