POSITION OVERVIEW

The Investigative Reporter will spearhead our efforts in discovering, analyzing, and presenting high-impact stories. This role demands a journalist who is not only tenacious and curious but also has a proven track record of developing investigative and consumer stories that resonate with a diverse audience. You will be a driving force in our newsroom, leading investigative projects from initial conception to production, utilizing creative storytelling techniques, and leveraging digital platforms to amplify your work.

Experience:

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Generate and develop ideas for investigative and consumer stories, from pitch to the final product, ensuring they meet our editorial standards and resonate with our audience.
  • Employ advanced storytelling techniques, including graphics, animations, and data visualization, to enhance reports and engage viewers.
  • Provide comprehensive digital content across all platforms, including the website, social media, podcasts, and livestreaming channels.
  • Participate actively in editorial discussions, contributing to legal and ethical decision-making to refine and ensure the quality of stories.
  • Infuse our daily news coverage with investigative depth, offering contextual insights that enrich our regular reporting.
  • Maintain transparent communication with stakeholders about story developments, ensuring alignment and cohesion across the newsroom.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Requirements:

KEY QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prior years in investigative reporting, showcasing a strong portfolio of impactful stories.
  • Innate curiosity, exceptional news judgment, and robust investigative skills.
  • Proficiency in legal research methods, including familiarity with public databases, FOIA, and other relevant procedures.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Investigative experience that showcases a significant impact on the community, highlighting issues of local or national importance.
  • Must exhibit a competitive spirit, a drive to lead in a high-pressure environment, and a commitment to ethical, accurate reporting.
  • Flexibility to work varying hours, adapting to the demands of the news cycle, including weekends and holidays as necessary.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bilingual abilities to connect and communicate with a wider audience.
  • Evidenced ability to think creatively about storytelling, employing experimental video strategies and non-traditional formats to engage viewers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, or related field.
  • Knowledge and experience with electronic surveillance and undercover.
